[0:00] always reminds me in when I was preaching in several nursing homes years ago I was on rotation and that's always an interesting experience because there are some folks that talk to you and relate to you but the majority don't you know bless these poor folks but when we sang a song like that they would all kind of be there I recognized two things during this so I would bring songs like that in the garden and there were some other ones that they just it was like brought them back the other thing that I noticed because I was learning to preach that if I didn't if I just did like a devotional just kind of soft talk and just kind of you know they weren't really there but if I proclaimed

[1:10] I mean with passion and boldness there were responses so there's power in the preached word and I don't mean yelling I don't mean I just mean there's a biblical kind of preaching that I learned over the years and that it's just amazing what that does so anyway that song just reminded me of that the power of truth both the power through music and then the mystery of the proclaimed gospel so let's go to Luke chapter 11 to capture Bibles and turn to Luke chapter 11 should fall open there we've been there for a few weeks we've been looking at prayer Jesus teaching us to pray so we want to read that prayer and then we'll we'll ask the Lord to guide our time we're going to be discussing today so you've heard from me for several weeks so time to get the better insights from you all what God's been speaking to you about so if you're able please stand as I read from Luke chapter 11 verses 1 through 4

[2:35] Luke chapter 11 verse 1 now Jesus was praying in a certain place and when he finished one of his disciples said to him Lord teach us to pray as John taught his disciples and he said to them whenever you are praying say or ask Father hallowed be your name your kingdom come give us each day our daily bread and forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us and lead us not into temptation so it reads let's ask the Lord for help today Father guide us today as we talk about these things help us

[3:36] Lord to what you've shown us what you've shown us through Jesus what you've thrown us through the word these last few weeks as we've been digesting this how big these prayers are show us today Father how we can talk about that help us to see more applications Lord we don't want to just kind of gain knowledge we want to gain wisdom so that we can truly do what Jesus has taught us to pray through these prayers this we ask in Christ's name amen please be seated so years ago a book came out that was a best seller on prayer it was a big big seller such a big seller that they made different versions of it they made a children's version and a parents version you know all kinds

[4:43] I mean the marketing was amazing and I bet you've heard of this book it's called the prayer of J-Bez heard of that I mean it was a best seller and it was new and it was exciting and it was a new way to pray and nothing wrong with the prayer really in its biblical setting but as I read the book on it I was thinking two things one well because the prayer is based on one verse from the Old Testament 1 Chronicles what 410 where J-Bez prayed for God to bless him that God would enlarge right spread out his territory and that he would have no pain and God answered his prayer prayer so somehow that became a model for prayer and the author of this book who's a well-known guy and a good guy but he was encouraging that this he was promoting this prayer to be a daily prayer this is what we should pray every day at time so that struck me wrong because we already have a daily prayer that Jesus has given to us that didn't sound anything like the prayer of

[6:05] J-Bez but see books like that and I remember the first time I studied the Lord's Prayer I went to the Christian bookstore and was looking at the big section on prayer and there's a ton of books on prayer maybe one or two addressed this prayer I thought there's something wrong with that and it's not that there's other I mean lots of those books on prayer are fine and they're good and they're meant for different kinds of applications I get that but something still struck me wrong about that as a pastor and as a biblicist can I use that word because I truly truly to the depth of my soul believe whatever whatever we do should be driven by his word should be that's what I want in all that we do how we worship how we pray how we function as a church how we gather how we everything we do should be driven by the word of

[7:19] God now there's different ways to apply those things but essentially what did Jesus say what did Paul say and there's plenty of instruction in the scriptures so anyway so so these books come out and people buy them and want to do them and then have because it's new and exciting what Jesus taught isn't new and exciting right we know the Lord's prayer we've heard it we've you know we sing it we you know we've recited it in church it's old it's not exciting it's not new but what it is is what Jesus taught us to do be faithful and I'm absolutely convinced that these six prayers that he taught us thy name thy kingdom thy will our bread our forgiveness our temptations those six areas cover any prayer that you can add so when I do prayer and share when you guys do you know what I do

[8:46] I have my oh my left there over there I put on my sheet I put kingdom will bread name and I put all the praises under name and I put all the under kingdom I put all the stuff we need the Holy Spirit's power for under will right guidance direction under bread all the physical stuff we talk about all the healings and the recoveries and all those get covered we don't do too much about forgiveness but it did come up today because that's about relationships forgive us as we forgive it's my relationship this way my relationship and then of course the deliver us that's the battle we're in that came up today anything I don't try to come up with something that doesn't fit into one of those six areas

[9:47] I don't think you can do it I think Jesus in all his wisdom has given us a pattern not to just recite those words but to pray in those areas there so how do you pray what is your habit when you pray do you have a favorite model for prayer do you follow a pattern there's lots of methods that men and women promote go look at the Christian bookstore or go online and see type in prayer you'll get hundreds of books there and men promote a lot of things and some of them can be fine and good but there's only one pattern that Jesus teaches us for a daily model and that's what he teaches us in two places in Matthew 6 where it's part of his sermon and here in Luke 11 where it was a different setting where now the disciples keep seeing him praying over and over he modeled it and in fact in the book of Luke in your outline I've got a bunch of references there how much does Jesus pray in chapter 3 21 he prayed when he was being baptized 5 16 he's praying alone chapter 6 verse 12 he's praying all night verse chapter 9 18 he's praying alone chapter 9 28 he's praying up on the mountain chapter 11 1 as we just read he's praying again and after the disciples see it over and over and over and over again they're like teach us to pray like you pray and I kind of think they might have been thinking they might have expected something different than he taught in the sermon on the mount but he gave him the same prayer in other words no matter where you are in your

[11:49] Christian life this is still the prayer this is still the pattern there's no advanced lord's prayer it's the same basic model so enough on me we're discussing today you've heard from me for a few weeks want to hear from you what is God teaching what have you discovered anything surprising that you've learned challenge things that the spirit has directed to you through the teaching right that maybe I didn't verbalize but the spirit did to you through the word through different verses so there we go on your outline you'll see kind of the summary of what we've taught look at that on one well I put it on one sheet one half sheet you have right praying father we discovered the things about the father that who it is we're addressing praying hallowed be thy name there we're praying that

[12:55] God would display his holy nature we talked about what that looked like praying thy kingdom come I would say that his power intervenes because all those areas are about his power changing lives and then praying thy will be done that he reveals to us what in whatever situation we're in so there's a summary of all that we're not going to go over that today it's just there as a summary I want to hear from you so what do you think what's percolating or or or or or questions maybe have because I'm sure there's questions as well what are you thinking Susan yeah this is Susan if you haven't mentioned she's been coming a few weeks so go ahead Lord has really been working on me and one of the things and I get what you're saying brother about his will that's one of the areas that he's really been working on me is about his will be done in situations not mine because then

[14:01] I'm released to allow him to move instead of me orchestrating it and part of that is also being still and knowing that he is God which means I got to be in his work which means I need to make time with him instead of rushing out and sometimes that's difficult because I'm very schedule driven and if I don't get up by certain hours then I can't go running and so I have to release that and realize that I can still take the dog for a walk and still come home and I might not start school till nine instead of eight but it's releasing and saying well maybe there was something that was happening on the road he didn't want me to be a part of so that's why I need to so it's just it allows me to not rush ahead of him but to be still with him when I spend time with him so that he gets all the glory yeah but I have a whole lot less frustration part of that embroidery thing again right yeah he's got a plan but we don't see how our messy lives anybody relate to that anybody compulsive about how your day should go and saying okay that's kind of tough isn't it Margo you can take the opportunity to talk to him yes walk with him as you're walking I do yeah yeah it's like I get a whole hour and a half up front yeah right and sometimes that could be a trouble because then you go well Lord we just spent an hour and a half I got things I got to do okay got to get on with yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah um for the longest time when I would actually pray this I would pray it as like an opening okay my time sure but what I I'm learning is it's making me think yes it isn't because I would think if I I'm not actually starting everything with maybe the Lord's Prayer then I'm doing something wrong but now as I have I'm hearing the words now and all of the words are making me think and there are some are really convicting me as well like the forgiveness part of those that have hurt um also the temptation you know the the entire prayer yeah it's big no it's it's no longer only a prayer to me but it is like application you and the application and also other relationship yeah yeah and I don't want you to get the impression about this I think this is a daily prayer that we set time aside for whether we're walking whether we're however you want to do that but I don't want you to get the impression that every time

[17:05] I pray and if I'm in an emergency I gotta I've got to go through it uh although that would be good too but there's times where we just have to cry out Jesus help right now right I understand that's that that's okay but this is so valuable to be part of our day in some way however you do that I I I pray better if I walk because some reason I sit down and other things but if I'm moving I can think better anyway however you do maybe driving maybe whatever I I in in Illinois when it got really cold I didn't walk I drove so I would drive out to the park and whatever whatever works for you whatever and your eyes were open while you were driving now notice what Jesus notice what Jesus does not say when you pray first close your eyes no he doesn't say that the Jews didn't do that by the way they stood and they raised their hand and looked up down so there's no there's no posture that's required yeah if it if it helps to close your eyes yeah no not when you're driving or walking that's probably not yeah yeah when Mark first came and I prayed with Mark he always prayed with his eyes open it kind of freaked me out but it's like you know that's okay anyway what else what else so well when I was in a much needier time in my life and I am now praise God I waited I would the scripture kept coming back to me seeking first the kingdom of God and his righteousness because I felt like I was really trying to teach me okay you want this and this and this and this and I want you to seek me and my kingdom and once you do I want to form you into my image and and if you yield to me all these things will be added unto you so you yield you yield let me be boss and and I will I will I'll take care of you yeah that's a walk of faith that's easy to say and then things come up right bills come up and whatever whatever yeah thank you what else what else are you discovering what else are you thinking through Dan

[19:43] I uh I'll start my prayers and I'm driving it's on my way to work that's my quiet time yeah paying attention to traffic and everything I love the way that you can especially with this prayer you can personalize it yeah yeah when you're praying this prayer I start out and I have it memorized but it's Father God Abba Daddy I come before you this morning with the words that Jesus has taught me to pray my Father in heaven how would be your name your kingdom come your will be done on earth as it is in heaven please give me this day my daily bread and please forgive me my debts as I also forgive those my forgive me my sins as I forgive those who sin against me and please Father God leave me not into temptation but please deliver me from all evil yeah yeah and that talks about the relationship yeah that's yeah where the focus is yeah yeah focusing on Father and that's that's really significant because today I've heard people pray in all kinds of different ways and it's all fine we address him as Father we address him as God we address him as Jesus we address him as Holy Spirit right there's lots of ways to address God but Jesus teaches us to address the Father

[21:06] I think that's significant there's nothing wrong with addressing him in other ways but Jesus is teaching us to think about him as our Father and the whole Trinity is involved in our prayers right we speak to the Father in the name of Jesus that's why we can come to the Father right we don't come in our name we come in his name because of what he's done and then with the Holy Spirit we pray with the Holy Spirit Holy Spirit helps us as we're praying right so we're going to the Father in the name of the Son with the help of the Holy Spirit we have the same power as the Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in as song goes lives in us which that song comes from Ephesians yeah yeah yeah that's kind of like you know same power wow that's in me yeah raising me up out of my stupor or whatever's going on darkness yeah what else any questions that I can't answer

[22:21] Zachariah where does this prayer sit in the kind of pantheon of prayers for example we have powerful ones like Daniel 9 which the whole Acts model is built off of yeah the Acts 4 prayer I think it's a pretty incredible one in James we have example in James 5 examples of praying over specific things so you have all these other prayers but we also have like Jesus saying pray this way or something I may not apply that but he says they ask he teaches how to pray and he's like say this yeah one of the first models I learned as a pastor was the Acts model you heard of that adoration confession thanksgiving supplication so that's the Daniel so if you look at Daniel 9 and Ezra and others that prayed in the Old Testament did that they would focus on God first so there's thy name

[23:25] Acts adoration and then that would lead them to confession because of who God is who am I right I mean Daniel did that Nehemiah did that Ezra did that I mean that David you go through the they follow that kind of general thing and then there would be thanksgiving thanksgiving right adoration confession thanksgiving for thank you for forgiving me thank you for everything you've done thank you for your mercy right and then the supplication then it would be what I need supplied supplication so prayers requests that's a general model followed but then after I did study in the Lord's Prayer I was like well there it is there it is I mean Acts model is just fine that's just fine nothing wrong with that especially for a public prayer so Zach uses that when he does the public prayer that's absolutely fine I'm committed to the Lord's Prayer whatever I do anywhere I pray public or private because my Lord taught me that so but like I said there's nothing so where does it fall in the pantheon

[24:38] I think it's the basic foundational guard guide so I think Paul I think others apply aspects of it so for instance in Colossians 1 Paul prays for the Colossians that God would fill them with the wisdom right fill them with the knowledge of his will and all spiritual wisdom and insight that we might walk in a manner worthy of you in every pleasing way so we might do his will so Paul in Colossians 1 is praying thy will be done he's filling out that prayer that's why I copy that prayer and put it under my category of thy will be done so when I pray thy will be done I'm praying not my will but thine be done so a personal surrender and then I'm praying for that wisdom fill me with the wisdom show me what to do give me the I know generally what you want me to do but wisdom and insight in applying that walking that so I think and Paul has recorded several prayers in the New Testament there's two in Ephesians there's one in Philippians one in Colossians

[25:50] Thessalonians there's several he's recorded and you could put those various prayers into those six into one of those six categories I do so he's just giving part of his prayer in that bottom line is acknowledging God his power and talking Jesus Christ has really made so much possible for us yeah one of them is prayer the ability to pray to God through him through Jesus as our holy high priest our savior our advocate our God and filling us allowing us to be filled thereby filled with the Holy Spirit which allows us to go toward God and present ourselves our messy messy messy messy incomplete struggling failing selves and ask for his mercy and grace and another thing

[27:05] Jesus taught us was intercessory prayer yes well notice that Jesus teaches us that in this prayer there's a key word right it's thy name thy kingdom thy will give me give us an hour forgive us lead us deliver us so so we're only talking about the first half of the prayers right right now the God stuff from bread and on it becomes our stuff but it's not he teaches us not just for me and that's okay to pray for me but he teaches us to think a little bigger too us I get to forgive me right I'm more focused on that because I need a lot of!

[27:59] ! But he's making me think okay what about us as a church what about us as a family what about us as a couple and a marriage what about you know I mean you can there's lots of ways that expands so this prayer in my opinion is has allows us as believers however much you believe or little you believe to have a relationship with the tribe moving God however far we want to take it and that idea grows with every time you perform if you will or activate this prayer because it's the wrath and it reminds me of

[29:02] Jesus when he prayed to the word God that we have recorded and all this he was talking to his father with respect and that's the point I want to get to here it's just giving over this is this is a kind of prayer that can be prayed from a very simple level if I'm just beginning right I just pray kind of quickly through it but meaningfully to what Jesus did all night right I mean if that's the pattern he taught I believe it's the pattern he prayed he shows it I mean the recording in John shows so so and yeah I mean he taught it in Matthew 6 in the context of a preaching sermon and then and then in Luke 11 just a everyday life kind of question answer same prayer same pattern anyway the exact wording isn't you know because the two are a little different but anyway yeah so that's what I want you to get to is is because you can look at all of this you know

[30:20] I mean you can look at my phone and how I do it it's like it's a long list but I don't do that every time but I try to do it consistently often so even if a day I'm really not feeling well maybe I just kind of do it more general at least I'm talking to my father right because I might feel weak and think oh I can't go through all that I'm overwhelmed by it but I can go I can just talk to my father I can just kind of generally say cause your name to be set apart today for me get my mind right send the Holy Spirit to reform me thy will help me submit to your will I might go quickly through it it depends you know I don't want you to get legalistic about another word okay I want you to apply it as the

[31:20] Holy Spirit works through you and I want to give you permission to do it in simple ways and more involved ways as the Lord leads you okay Sue you have something well a thought just came to me when you were talking about Jesus praying all night that maybe the reason it was all night is because he has learned to listen he has learned to be still that's hard for me I'm good at being still and listen for his still small voice because he can give you thoughts just as well as anybody else and sometimes I think we don't realize how personal he really wants to be with us and he's given me thoughts that just amazed me when I didn't understand parts of scripture and I say Lord I'm just going to be still and you let me know what it means I only want to hear from you and the thoughts

[32:22] I received in some of those moments were just astounding and had a profound effect on my life just acknowledging God is the beginning of wisdom and he is the source he's everything and he definitely can speak to us yeah it will be still we'll make time proverbs 3 right trust the Lord with all your heart lean not on your own understanding in all your ways and he will very simple isn't it not easy walking with God is simple but not easy right but it's not complicated enough you know getting that first part right trust in him with all my heart not leaning on okay wow

[33:26] I got it that's default my default is to lean on my understanding that's the most natural thing in the world lean on my understanding so I got to fight against that to walk with him to trust him but he says if I acknowledge him in everything and I work at not leaning if I wait he will make my path straight and that's part of what we're saying when we're praying as a church you know show us Lord we have some ideas where we're going show us show us clearly how we apply those things right as we step into our next phase as a church whatever he will make our path straight are we willing to wait are we willing to wait for him I think a lot of churches don't want to wait they want to get a plan and they get ideas and get programs going because that feels good and we can feel good about ourselves I think it's much harder to wait for him that doesn't mean we don't do anything we're talking we're discussing we got some ideas we're going to walk toward those and see is that what you want but we're going to keep asking is that what you want you want us to do that class and open it up to the neighborhood the class on parenting or class on marriage or we open it up to the community here or we do an outreach bible study to AA groups that are here that's something

[34:51] I'm hoping to do but is that what you want so can we wait we're saying that will be done can we wait so that's that's where we're at and that's where you're often at in your own lives yeah maryan speaking of patience part of the waiting I accept too he's not always going to answer me at least not in my timing or he made his answer so he he always does give an answer right his answer is either yes no or wait sometimes it's no but that but we're but if we're asking that will be clear but wait is wait is often isn't it wait is often yes as we see later in

[35:59] Luke 11 Jesus is going to tell us a parable isn't he he's going to tell us a parable about how we pray it's just like when you go to the friend at night and he doesn't want to answer and the friend is in God's place because we're asking the father and the father's not not the friend that you know doesn't want to get up but the implication is the father will answer but we're going to have to keep knocking he's not going to answer right away that seems to be the implication Jesus gives of regular prayer we give up very easy so when Jesus said to Peter after he walked on the water Peter had enough faith to step out and walk on water how many have done that what did Jesus describe his faith as little little because he began to sink didn't he so I thought it sounds pretty great faith to walk on water because you know only he and

[37:05] Jesus have done it but Jesus said it's little why because it didn't last it didn't last so great faith is not about size it's about the length understand little faith is about the shortness we give up which is natural to it's I'm not going to keep waiting I want it now well that's little faith which is why the body is so important in the letters guys it's about encouraging each other sharing our burdens is critical praying together we can't do it alone and God made us as a community because if we walk alone when he's telling us to wait and we're walking alone that's hard it's lonely we begin to talk to ourselves or listen to ourselves right don't listen to your soul talk to your soul your soul is going to be like give up dude right go out and have fun yeah so David talks to his soul why are you this true knock it off gotta get a hold of my soul in regards to waiting

[38:25] Jesus never said it was gonna be easy but he promises it'll be worth it amen well so after he tells the parable in Luke 11 about the friend right and you're going as somebody who's just gonna be a bother you will get up because I'm not leaving until you get out of bed then he says what whoever asks receives whoever seeks finds whoever keeps on knocking and the ask seek knock they're all in the present tense so they're not just I knocked once and I didn't get an answer it's even Jesus had to ask three times in the garden let this cup pass how hard that must have been for him

[39:27] Luke tells us he sweat and drops of blood which means that's a condition of high stress and anxiety when the blood is the capillaries are breaking in your forehead it's a real condition Jesus got stressed boy we don't have an idea how deep that level of of what he was facing on the cross what he knew he was giving up not the physical pain I don't think that bothered him at all it was that father relationship why have you forsaken me that was that scared him that scared him so yeah so process prayer so we've looked at just the first three requests thy name thy kingdom thy will all about him why do you think those are first before we get to our bread because if

[40:49] I'm hungry I want to pray for my bread first and if I'm dirty I want cleansing and if I'm being tempted I want protection but Jesus says thy name thy kingdom thy will why what does that do to us it certainly focuses it's reforming me it's purifying me it's renewing me I have discovered as I work through those even though I'm anxious about these other three if I'm taking the time and the discipline to work through those by the time I get to my bread which I was anxious about I mean my heart's been relieved and renewed and if I genuinely said it's about you because that's hard to do when I want it to be about me so that's good for us that's one of my prayers standing up there is for people to just even just temporarily forget about who you came to church with forget about where you're going to lunch afterwards and focus on the reason you're here that's why we say every time we start it's good to be

[42:17] Lord's house Lord's day Lord's people because it's all about it's just a simple way of reminding us as we start because we come from distractions and come from you know we may have prayed and then something happened within getting out of the car I stubbed my toe and I totally lost my spiritual foot you know whatever things happen and so we we need that I need that reminder every Sunday morning even though I know what we're going to say I'm meaning it when we say it no it's about him it's about him I got to tell my soul that it's about him this morning it's always about him but absolutely when we gather it's about him yeah okay any other thoughts questions Debbie one of my favorite go to's when you're talking about how Jesus persisted but I love the parable of persistent yeah that's one of mine and it's the same thing same concept yeah it's an evil judge that doesn't care about

[43:29] God or people but because she annoys me and then Jesus says now the father's not an evil judge what a contrast yet the process can be similar persistence keep coming remember who remember who Jesus described had great faith the woman who came and touched the tassels of his robe well yes true I was thinking of another woman but thank you is that the one that was bleeding yes and he knew and she shouldn't have been there yeah yeah and she's trying to hide yeah Jesus doesn't love her hide like the faith she just yeah but I'm thinking of another woman who had a daughter who was demonized and Jesus was on retreat with his disciples right they're getting away from people and here comes this woman screaming screaming that's what Matthew says she's screaming Lord help me my daughter is demonized and Matthew describes that first he ignored her so she comes keeps coming and then

[44:44] Jesus all the disciples who are so helpful said Lord send her away she's annoying us great compassion from the disciples we're on retreat we don't want to minister right now and Jesus said something about bread the dogs the children's bread the children's bread right and it's not for the dogs something like that so then it sounds like so first Jesus ignores then the disciples you know are unhelpful and then Jesus makes this really rude remark that sounds like doesn't sound like Jesus he says she's a dog but he used a particular word that meant the little dog that one that gets the scraps under yeah he said talk about the little dogs get the scraps under the table because people in those days didn't really have dog pets but there were little dogs around that would come in and eat the scraps and the woman was right on she's like

[45:59] I'm good with that I'll be the little dog Lord just let me have the crumbs and then Jesus said that's great why why was that great because she came through silence then she came through the church being stupid petty she came through that I'm not going to let the church keep me from Jesus and then she came even through this remark that sounded like harsh she came because she didn't care I'll be under the table I'll be fine I'll lick the crumb just a little bit from you that's enough for me and then Jesus is like that's I think he knew all along didn't he he's drawing that out of her and the disciples really needed a lesson so again all these lessons

[47:01] Jesus teaches it's it's about keep coming keep coming keep coming is God silent keep coming is the church discouraging keep coming because yeah we can be not helpful disciples sometimes can't we we can give off to new folks or to others an unhelpful comment because we're critical or we're negative or whatever whatever keep coming because the church the disciples do represent Jesus but they represent Jesus in a very flawed way so recognize that I'm still coming to Jesus the church isn't my savior the church is just I'm part of that he's my savior and even if he makes me feel like a little dog are you okay with that yeah because a crumb from his table oh who wants the king's morsel when you can have a crumb from

[48:21] Jesus table so you you get it you see the soft hearts out there going yeah yeah yeah yeah I can I can be okay with that as long as I get myself in the right attitude I can be okay okay any other thoughts questions yeah it helped me it's expanded my knowledge my insight of the kingdom I pray for your kingdom come what what I can look at the kingdom before and see it in a small picture broaden that perspective what is truly your kingdom and show me the breadth of your kingdom and not only help me perceive that and understand how big the kingdom actually is yeah it's everything yeah it's not some box way out in the future just for the Jews it's the gospel it's the work of the Holy Spirit my desire yeah yeah yeah it's it's big good yeah

[49:47] I mean you just trace how he uses the word kingdom through the New Testament so whoa well and I reminded about what you were saying I was just reminded of my spirit when I pray for my kids even though they're not walking the floor he's got to be a human walk right he's got a purpose even though I don't see it today and the choices that make me bring him glory because that's part of your testimony because I keep going back if I was so far and you were willing to not give up on me yeah then you won't give up on my kids yeah and that's where I put my hit list under that category of kingdom cause your kingdom to come to them to break their heart to make them broken to make them humble cause your kingdom to come by the work of your spirit to open their eyes and to release them from Satan's power and all the ways that the New Testament describes kingdom and trust him in them not getting in his way yeah well he has to work he has to change their heart just like he did to us when we were blind and he had to wake us up okay yeah

[51:00] Kim so even having grown up in Catholic faith praying this prayer was the foundation every night we prayed the prayer and every day I wanted to it I've never thought about it the way that you've expounded upon it it's open doors in ways I can't explain and then to top things off right now we have some sheep grazing on our pasture for fire mitigation kind of a rent a herd kind of thing okay I've seen a lot of people and at work we've been studying about the shepherd right and so a lot of what I'm watching as the owner comes and moves them around our property to graze the next part that whole John 10 27 my sheep listen to my voice I know them and they follow me and it brings me back to am I listening to you Lord am I doing what you want and especially in this time of year where we're going into elections and everybody's kind of loose lipped about their thoughts and it it silences me you know so it's been very a lot of voices out there we listen in there are but there's only one that counts exactly so yeah yeah thank you yeah okay let's close with prayers and we'll we'll sing and then we'll close our sermon

[52:37] Father thank you for your wonderful son that you sent to deal with our greatest issue and that's our rebellion against you our waywardness our lostness thank you that you sent him as a shepherd to gather us back gently but with truth we thank you Lord that he not only gathers us and loves us and cares for us and shows us what you what your words are that but that he teaches us how to relate to you he teaches us that you're our father and not just our Lord that you want a personal intimate relationship with us not just a religion thank you that he teaches us how to talk to you and what to talk to you about which covers the gamut of all the things that that that we deal with and so thank you help us

[53:48] Lord to continue to think through these things how we pray as we pray help us to apply what you lead us to apply help our prayers to continue to be refreshed as as we walk with you and help us to listen as we pray help us not just to do all the talking so this we ask in Christ's name amen amen toNING
