[0:00] oh okay alright I got it alright back off give me a little time let me breathe God is good take out your Bibles and turn with me to Luke chapter 5 we come to a story that's very simple yet it's stunning it's very visual very dramatic and I think Luke captures something for us in Jesus dialoguing with
[1:00] Simon Peter so we want to read the text and then we'll we'll ask the Lord to to to work today and then we'll dig into it so if you're able please stand Luke chapter 5 we're just we're looking at verses 1 through 11 on one occasion while the crowd was pressing in on him meaning Jesus to hear the word of God he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret and he saw two boats by the lake but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets getting into one of the boats which was Simon's he asked him to put out a little from the land and he sat down and taught the people from the boat and when he had finished speaking he said to Simon put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch and Simon answered
[2:12] Master we toiled all night and took nothing but at your word I will let down the nets and when they had done this they enclosed a large number of fish and their nets were beginning to break and they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them and they came and filled both boats so that they began to sink when Peter when Simon
[3:15] Peter saw he fell down at Jesus' knees saying get away from me for I am a sinful man I can't read for he and all who were with him were astonished stunned at the catch of fish that they had taken and so also were James and John sons of Zebedee who were partners with Simon and Jesus said to Simon do not be afraid from now on you will be catching men and when they had brought their boats to land they left everything and followed him so it reads let us pray father father father in heaven hallowed be your name cause your name to stun us today cause your glory to be made known to us like it was like it was to
[5:07] Peter and we pray that your kingdom would come so that not only would we see that but we would be transformed by that we would be changed we would be humbled we would see not only who you are but who we are cause your will to be done give to us this day your our daily bread feed us father some fish we pray in Christ's name amen please be seated I'm going to try to proceed all right let me bring it back down have you ever seen the movie a river runs through it seen that it's an old I guess old now back in the 90s I think I just remember the scene in that where I think it's Brad Pitt who's playing the son of the minister right he's the rebellious son I think anyway he's out in the river and he's just doing this fly fishing thing he's just you know walking down the river and just and it's just stunning right just like I wish I could do that I want to do that so do we have any fishermen here anybody doing that kind of thing yeah good at it do you fish do you catch yeah see
[6:42] I found out there's a difference see I've tried my hand at fishing I've had some very good teachers working with me but they catch I fish well I catch twigs branches you know break the line snag you know all that kind of stuff Ron come over I got stuck again that's why they call it fishing that's right brother and I experienced that part of it you know your arm gets tired after a while and then you know I forget how Ron taught me how to do the casting and I'm throwing a football instead of casting the line it's like you're slapping the water oh anyway so fishing we can relate to fishing Luke tells us about this how the disciples fish and Jesus catches see the disciples they fish all night that's all they do is fish they don't catch anything
[7:45] Jesus says put the nets down for a catch and the boats are overloaded Jesus is a catcher of men what is this story about why does Luke write this right this this just simple story it's not a fish story it's a catching story it's how Jesus catches us this is how he caught Peter how he brings sinful people to their knees and then transforms them he does not bring them to their knees to shame them he brings them to their knees to change them okay we sang a line in holy holy holy I love that song with the third phrase third verse says though the eye of sinful man my glory may not see
[8:59] I disagree with that because the eye of sinful Peter saw Jesus that day and it changed everything so Luke tells us how and why the disciples leave everything and follow him what would make somebody do that when the other gospels when Matthew and Mark tell us about the call of the fishermen you know Matthew says you know Jesus sees a couple of fishermen it's Peter and Andrew they're fishing and he goes over to him he says follow me and I'll make you fishers of men and they leave everything and follow him and then he sees James and John a couple other fishermen he says hey follow me I'll make you fishers of men they leave everything and follow him we read Matthew's account we go just because he said that they did it just because he said that they left everything and followed him why would they do that
[10:00] Luke tells us only Luke tells us what made the difference it was this little not little big catch that caught them that's what this story is about so why do we exist why does Little Log Church exist what's our purpose why are we here what's our mission well we summarize that in the front of our bulletin we say following Christ and fishing from it right I mean there's bigger ways to say that in our bulletin we have our formal purpose you know that we take you know we exist for the glory of God and all these things but to really keep it simple we follow Jesus and he makes us into fishers of men right I will make you you follow me that's your part
[11:01] I will make you right so that's that's really our our purpose it's to simplify it in verses one through three we see people following Jesus that's the beginning that's how it starts right there's a crowd pressing in on him to hear the word of God that's interesting they're there to hear the word not just to get miracles this crowd of people want to hear him teach they want to hear the word coming from his mouth the word that is God's word right so they're pressing in and so Jesus just happens to be standing by the lake of Gennesaret which is the same thing as the sea of Galilee right so right there and there's a couple of fishing boats there so he knows these guys Peter and Andrew James and John they've already been following him for a while we know that from other gospels and we know from Luke chapter 4 he's already been to Peter's house right he's already healed Peter's mother-in-law right not Peter he's called
[12:04] Simon at that point we don't know he's Peter yet sorry broke the surprise but so he you know they're over there men in their nets and he said cleaning their nets which is interesting they're cleaning the nets when they didn't catch anything that's interesting okay I guess there's still some reason that they need to clean the nets in order to catch fish but anyway so Jesus you know says hey Peter he gets into Peter's boat and push it out a little bit so that I can talk to people without everybody pressing around me so that's what he does he he confiscates a boat to be his pulpit for the teaching by the lake that's the setting and we learn about more about Simon we already knew that he was married we already knew he had a house now we find out that he has a fishing business and that he has partners in this business James and John that they're all fishing together and this is what they do so Luke tells this story it's about boats boats are mentioned a bunch of times he mentions fishermen he mentions a catch but the focus of these 11 verses are on one person well two people
[13:21] Jesus and Peter it's Simon that Jesus focuses on it's Simon that Jesus talks to at the end we see verse 11 they all leave everything and follow him but the focus is Peter so we're going to see how this happens through the person of Peter and we see that a lot in the gospels don't we it's kind of like Peter that we learn from right he sticks his foot in his mouth right or he makes the bold claim and then the stupid comment we love Peter because good he said it now I learn from that right so and it's kind of he's the leader I think the other guys follow him in a lot of ways he's going to be called the rock right so it's about Peter it's about his boat it's about his confession and it's about his commission okay so I want you to see the point of the story as we ask the question why does
[14:22] Jesus do this remarkable miracle just for this handful of disciples this is not a crowd miracle this is they get in the boats they go out in the deep and they make this great catch just for the eyes of these few disciples and it does change them okay so why does he do that just for the few and why does this miracle prompt Simon Peter to confess his sinfulness why would that be so he's seen other miracles and that hasn't happened it's not just that it's a miracle why is it that this miracle!
[15:02] prompts him to fall to his knees and confess see and then verse 11 how does this prompt not only Peter but Andrew and James and John and whoever else is there to leave everything and to follow him why is this the decisive change okay that's what this story's about there is a revelation of Jesus that leads to transformation transformation only comes after revelation it's only after see what Peter sees and what they all see in this miracle about Jesus that transforms them to leave everything and follow him okay that's what it's about so his followers become those who become fishers of men from now on you'll be catching men and that happens by the transformation that
[16:15] Jesus causes so let's break the story down into two because that's what I always do I always break it into two right cut it in half so we can eat the dinner and then the dessert I don't know or the vegetables however you prefer or if you're vegetarian no I'm sorry getting off track so why what is it that causes these men here's a question what causes these men to leave everything and follow Jesus why do they do it two reasons I think two reasons one we see in the miracle we see in verses four through seven this revelation in the miracle we see a revelation Christ is revealing himself they see something about him okay that causes Peter to confess it causes them all okay so the first reason is the revelation Jesus reveals his stunning glory to awaken sinful people or to catch them to use the word of the story so that's the first reason he reveals his stunning glory to awaken sinful people the second reason we see after they see the miracle what's the reaction so verses eight through eleven revelation leads to transformation so the first reason is revelation seeing
[17:40] Jesus second reason is then it leads to transformation which comes through a confession and then a commission and then a conversion they leave everything okay so that's what we're going to trace here so first thing we look at the miracle in verses four to seven here Jesus reveals his stunning glory to awaken sinful people or if you want to use Luke's word he reveals his stunning glory to catch he catches them catches sinful people okay grabs a hold of them all right so how does this happen so verse four we have a command right that Jesus is teaching and then when he's done verse four when he's finished speaking he said to Simon so this is just to Simon put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch so it's a command he's not asking
[18:43] Peter back in verse three you know he gets into one of the boats which is Peter's and he he asked Peter to put out a little bit verse three he asked verse four he's not asking he's telling put out into the deep interesting so it's a command what are you going to do about that Peter not asking put out into the deep so he puts Peter in a position into the deep not just out a few yards we want to go out in the deep we want to put the nets down into the deep we're not using the surface nets we're using the deep nets you know the ones you just cleaned yeah okay thanks very much Jesus and it's good you know you're already tired you know so we're going to row some more so let down your nets for a catch now isn't that interesting not to fish let down your nets for a catch so there's a faith element here for
[19:48] Peter not a fish we're not going to fish we're going catching when you go with Jesus I guess you don't fish you catch yeah so what's Peter's reply here's where it gets interesting okay Peter answered and said uh master I love you man I'm editing here master we toiled all night and took nothing um what do you think is behind that statement why didn't Peter just say you got it Lord we're going why does he add this um master maybe you're not aware you're just a carpenter we're professional fishermen okay we know what we're doing we did it at night for a reason there's a reason we fish at night fish don't see the nets you know it's a little more helpful you catch more fish at night right you fish you don't fish from the sun side right
[21:00] Ron taught me you don't fish the fish see your shadow you know you gotta you know so there's a whole thing fish have eyes so we fish at night so you know we already toiled all night by the way the word toiled means to labor to exhaustion we're spent we are absolutely exhausted so Peter is reluctant he's hesitant he most likely feels this is a waste of time we just cleaned the nets we're already we're done but but but Peter you know but at your word I will let down the nets just because it's you Jesus you know a carpenter telling a fisherman how to fish right it's kind of like us telling
[22:07] Pete how to fight a fire right no I think no you're doing it I think you need to do it differently right what is a pastor now well nothing what is a carpenter now this is what's in Peter's mind because I want you to get that because when you get to the other side of the miracle we have Peter just going okay I don't know anything right so we have this concession he's hesitant he's reluctant but at your word Lord I'll do it is that trust it's not flamboyant it's not big trust it's not you know it's it's what Jesus called little faith still faith and then of course we see the result is shock and awe right verse six and seven and notice the words describing this miracle right when they had done this they enclosed a large number of fish literally a great multitude of fish and their nets were breaking their nets were beginning to break it was so much in fact verse seven they needed help it was too much for one boat so they signaled to their partners in the other boat partners we find out later are
[23:30] James and John in the other boat to come and help! they began to sink and the average boat back then was 25 feet long about 7 feet wide 7.5 feet wide about 4 to 5 feet deep that's a lot of fish that's a lot of fish it's probably hard to walk around with all the fish in here I don't know so what do they see in this what does that tell Peter what just got revealed to him this ain't no common carpenter I think I know how to fish and he does this later they're going to see him calm the storm right right and they're going to fall on their knees they're going to go who is this who commands the sea and the waves or the wind and the waves right he also commands the fish apparently fish gather my buddies are putting their nets in
[24:51] I want you to go into the nets and fill the nets everybody come I don't know how he did that how did he do that like he calmed the sea I imagine maybe just the words where he said let down your nets for a catch maybe he said it loud enough that all the fish heard I don't I don't know how but it showed Peter and the others something stunning stunning we think we know what we're doing we don't even have a clue we don't have a clue you don't fish during the day with dirty nets!
[25:40] so when do we see this something is revealed right they get a glimpse of the glory of Jesus he reveals his stunning glory to awaken the sinful people to catch them to change their view of Jesus and their view of themselves this is what captures us this is what changes us to see him how do we see him how do we see him do we still see him like this have you been Christian for a while I thought of an application here have you been exhausted and weary and doing good and yet the Lord says I still want you to keep doing it you're exhausted and weary you've worked all night you you're toiled to exhaustion you're done you're spent and
[26:47] Jesus says hey Bill I want you to go do this I want you to call this I want you to love this I want you to do something how do you deal with that when you're done okay listen to what Paul says in Galatians 6 he says don't be deceived God is not mocked whatever one sows that he will also reap right basic principle we reap what we sow period that's just truth so for example for the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption if I just live from my flesh if I just do it in my own strength if I do it in my own understanding I will reap corruption that's it that's all I can do but Paul says but the one who sows to the spirit will from the spirit reap eternal life okay
[27:50] I want some of that how do I do that instead of to the flesh I sow to the spirit how do I do that and then comes the point so let us not grow weary of doing good for in due season we will reap if we do not give up okay that's the hard part right that's the hard part because we're already weary and he says okay you weary people don't grow weary of doing good don't stop why because in due season you will reap if you don't give up come on so his application then is so as we have opportunity let's do good to everyone especially to those in the household of faith so do good things especially to other believers because that's the priority love one another as I have loved you right that's the priority that's great so let me let me push this a little bit are you growing weary of doing good huh are we weary of course you do and maybe you're there right now you're just absolutely worn out feel like giving up you are done you are spent everything and you just have nothing left the tank is empty right in the flesh you have labored to exhaustion and that's when God says why don't you do something else right come on
[29:40] I'm just too tired I'm just I'm done I got no motivation for that I got I'm done do more I want you to go out and fish again well not fish I want you to go catch something I want you you know the whole I want you to deny yourself take up your cross you know that whole thing of course he asks us to do that when we're absolutely exhausted and spent and we got nothing left so how do you say like Peter did when you are exhausted and you're done how do you say like Peter did at your word I will because you asked me Jesus I'll do it I don't think I'll be any good I think it'll be a waste of time but I'll do it trying to put Peter into our thoughts a little bit just to be real how do you do that well
[30:56] Paul says in Galatians sow to the spirit and from the spirit you will reap so what does that mean sow to the flesh I reap corruption I depend on myself I look to myself if I do it in my own strength and I think only by the way I understand things I will reap corruption but if I sow to the spirit if I look to the spirit if I depend on the Holy Spirit if I wait for the spirit to teach me and to lead me and direct me and to strengthen me then I will reap it's like Jesus at the cross right father let this cup pass I don't want it I can't do it but not my will right that surrender part that and there's a lot more going on in
[31:57] Jesus than just those simple words you understand that that's a battle he's fighting and he has to do it three times right so this is not easy for him so if it's not easy for him imagine how uneasy it is for us right but we battle that that's what we fight to do and our faith may not look real pretty at the moment maybe like Peter but we still say at your word and it's in those moments that we see him do what we couldn't do right somebody's affected and I didn't I just went or I just said or I just whatever wasn't me right
[33:00] I see him so what changes these men first because Jesus reveals his stunning glory to awaken or capture these sinful people we see a second reason after that miracle happens verses 8 through 11 we see the whole response the whole reaction we see them changed the revelation of Jesus leads to transformation of unfit sinners Jesus transforms unfit sinners to include them in his mission here's the other part right not only does he transform them not only does he tell sinful Peter fear not but he tells him from now on everything changes from now on you're not a fisherman anymore now you're a catcher of men you're different you're changed you're transformed and they leave everything and follow him right so revelation brings transformation so he transforms
[34:19] Peter and others who say they are sinful he transforms unfit sinners to include them in his mission from now on you'll be catching men now on you're in my thing now you're with me now you're doing my work now you're catching men okay so how does that happen well it starts with an unexpected confession we have Peter seeing this and falling to his knees why does he do that Jesus Peter saw something we're told verse eight when Simon Peter by the way he's called Simon the rest of the story but here Luke puts in the name Peter Simon who's Peter this is the first time in the gospel Luke we find out oh Simon is Peter I didn't know who Simon was Simon is Peter he's Simon Peter when he does something good
[35:20] I think he's called Peter when he does something that's kind of idiotic I think he's called Simon I don't know you'd have to check that out but here he's called Peter when he makes his really right response when he saw it what did he see it's not just that he saw a miracle he's seen other miracles this one was something else this one was personal you Peter you Peter excuse me you Simon you get out there put the boat out put the net down you Peter but but but but but but I know what I'm doing you don't know what you're doing big catch what would that do to you know your ego as a professional fisherman who knows what he's doing and you don't catch anything all night you do everything you know what you're supposed to be doing and then this carpenter says do it now and then you know how does that how's that go he sees something he sees something about
[36:40] Jesus that he's not a simple carpenter he and I thought I knew what I was doing I don't know anything he knows right he recognizes the significance and then what's remarkable is what Peter said he falls to his knees right he's just humbled he's broken he is he is saying depart from me for I'm a sinful man depart from me isn't that interesting he doesn't just say I'm sinful he says get away from me Jesus what does that mean what does that imply you I shouldn't be anywhere near you I don't deserve to be in your presence get away from me why because I'm sinful I'm contaminated I'm unclean I'm dirty get away from me he feels his guilt he's afraid that his shame is showing he knows he's unworthy
[37:54] I am sinful he's not saying I have sinned I've made a few mistakes you know I'm basically good but I've made a few mistakes he says I am sinful my whole being my whole person is sinful contaminated corrupted unfit in the presence in the presence of Jesus Peter feels absolutely exposed for who he really is nothing hidden he sees the presence the power the glory what what what the Bible calls the light of God shining in darkness right and you either come to the light or you hide from the light Peter feels absolutely exposed and we see that it's not just him verse 9 for he and all who were with him were stunned this word astonished it really doesn't capture it's kind of shock and awe they were stunned they were just shocked and in awe there's an element of fear and amazement in this word they're just boom stunned at the catch of the fish they had taken and so also were
[39:28] James and John sons of Zebedee who were partners with Simon so they're in this too they just kind of get a little cameo in the story but you know because it's about Peter but James and John are there too so that fits with what Matthew tells us about the call that Peter and Andrew got called interesting Andrew isn't mentioned in the story I don't know why maybe I don't know he's the quiet one so sometimes he doesn't get mentioned right you got Peter he's the rock you got James and John sons of thunder okay they get all the attention I don't know but it's not just Peter in other words Luke's letting us know it's not just about Peter the other guys are stunned as well they're affected just as well maybe they fell on their knees too I don't know so what happens the end of verse 10 so what does Jesus do with this sinful man what does
[40:32] Jesus do with this man who when he asks him to go out for a catch gives him some reasons why they shouldn't go what should he do with this know it all proud fisherman who after he sees the miracle is is broken from his pride he's broken he's confessing he's humbled what will Jesus do with this man in this vulnerable position what does Jesus do when sinners come to him right who feel guilt and shame who feel unworthiness who feel like we shouldn't be in the presence of Jesus by the way that's probably why sinners don't come to church well I'm sorry except for you sinners I'm assuming you're on page with me and we know that we're still sinners right okay but
[41:34] I mean people that haven't been to church right and are very uncomfortable coming to church why because church will remind them that they're sinners which is the right thing to be reminded of it is critical that Peter sees Jesus and feels his sin that's absolutely important right we don't come to Jesus really we don't get transformed if we're not exposed before him in his light okay I know it's scary to come to light I know it's not something natural to do we don't want to walk in the light with all our dirty stuff but that's what we must do for him to cleanse us because I can't clean my own laundry ask my wife no I so what does Jesus do first words Jesus says to Simon Peter is do not be afraid don't don't don't be afraid don't fear stop being afraid it's in the present tense so it's it's it's like stop your fearfulness don't don't don't put yourself there what a kind word don't be afraid because you're a sinner and
[43:04] I'm holy my holiness comes before you not to shame you not to condemn you not to be repulsed by you my holiness is not represented by religious people that do that to you because when Jesus is faced with a sinner he says don't be afraid but it's the most natural thing to do because when you feel what Peter feels when you feel the shame and guilt and the unworthiness in light of the light the bright shining light how can I not fear so yeah I do start with the fear of the Lord right all wisdom starts with the beginning of wisdom is fear of the Lord I have to start there that's absolutely necessary to say that God is not scary!
[43:59] is not biblical God is absolutely! But it's His prerogative to tell us when we come to Him don't be afraid okay that's my response come bow and it's His grace that says okay good boy I got you don't fear anymore don't be afraid anymore you're welcome here I want you here I got you it's His catch and then the second thing he says is from now on you will be catching men you have a new vocation you have a new there's a whole new focus for you you'll be catching men literally catching means to take alive to rescue whereas when you're fishing you get fish and you're not taking well they're alive but then they don't live right because you're going to use them for food right unless you're just catching release and not you know fish
[45:17] Peter didn't do catch and release this is livelihood this is how I feed my family okay but so it's different in other words you were fishing for fish that were going to die so that you saving them alive you'll be rescuing them from the deep from the darkness right that's what you're going to do and again by the way he doesn't ask him from now on you'll be catching men he didn't ask him he just said this is what you're going to do from now on Peter this is your life I don't know if you call it a promise call it a prediction call it a statement I don't know what this is but it's not asking telling from now on you're different from now on you're!
[46:20] my! from now on you are in my mission okay you have a new purpose and we will see that later in the book of Acts which Luke also writes the book of Acts chapter 2 remember Pentecost remember Peter stands up to preach how many people came to Christ that day how many people repented and were baptized 3,000 I bet that's probably about the amount of fish he caught in two boats I don't know no probably not it's probably a lot more I don't know what 3,000 fish looks like in 25 foot boat so yeah Peter Jesus was absolutely right about Peter you will be catching men and he says that to all of us by the way come to him we're not all full time doing that but that's that's our purpose that's why it's on the front of our bulletin we follow
[47:23] Christ and we fish for men and we don't do it in our strength we do it by selling to the spirit right we do it excuse me as he makes us and gives us opportunity right it's not something we force it's not some program that we run it's Jesus didn't do that as we meet people we build relationships we spend time with people we learn we begin to catch them they learn to trust us so that we can they can hear our message and our message is real and not a not a you know canned thing and we share stuff like Peter did I'm a sinful person too I'm just showing you where where the bread is okay so then you get to the capture basically verse 11 here's where he got him he got him comes from a confession and a commission and then we have a capture they're transformed because now when they put the boats back to land they leave everything and follow him and they don't leave everything and follow him just because he did a miracle just because he did something stunning he did something that personally affected them he did something that showed them who he was and who they were and that changed everything they saw one who knows all their sinfulness he knows all my shame all my guilt all my unworthiness all my unfitness all my dirt and he still accepts me in fact he wants me he begins what I think is a very slow process of transforming me but it is transformation and cleaning so how how do we change you know we see our dirt we see our unfitness we see you know we're unworthy we see all this stuff we recognize over time man I just can't get it together
[49:47] I cannot conquer this or that I'm I'm struggling so how do I change how do I get clean and what if I'm you know I've never even met Jesus before but I feel all that I feel too unworthy to even serve him or come to him you know I can't come in his presence I can't you know I need I need to keep on arm's length from him or three arm's lengths or you know away from churches and stuff like that and Christian people well you remember the call of Isaiah maybe you don't but Isaiah the prophet it's really similar to Peter I just want to read it it's in Isaiah chapter 6 here's how he describes when he got transformed in the year of King Isaiah in the year that King Isaiah died I saw the Lord Isaiah saw the Lord sitting upon a throne high and lifted up and the train of his robe filled the temple and above him stood the seraphim each had six wings with two he covered his face with two he covered his feet and with two he flew and one seraphim called to another and said we just sang this by the way right holy holy holy holy is the
[51:08] Lord God of hosts the whole earth is full of his glory and the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called and the house was filled with smoke and I said Isaiah says I said whoa whoa not whoa like wow that was cool like whoa is me I am ruined I am done I am toast whatever modern language you want to put it in I've seen the Lord I no longer should be breathing why did he say that what was me for I am lost why for I am a man of unclean lips sounds just like Peter doesn't it I'm a sinful man I'm a man of unclean lips my lips are dirty and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips we all got dirty lips we all got dirty mouths we all got dirty hearts for my eyes
[52:18] I'm lost because I'm a sinful man and because my eyes have seen the king the Lord of hosts so seeing having the revelation leads to humility then one of the seraphim flew to me having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar and he touched my unclean mouth and said behold this has touched your lips your guilt is taken away and your sin is atoned for your sin is all covered up and I heard the voice of the Lord saying whom shall I send and who will go for us then I said here I am send me what happens to Isaiah just like Peter he sees the Lord he feels his sin and the Lord transforms him and just like Isaiah send me
[53:21] Peter is right from now on you're catching me I'm sending you see in other words this is a biblical pattern what transforms us revelation of who Jesus is really seeing who he is that leads to my brokenness and humility and absolute well fear and trembling and confession which then leads to who shall I send that sinner right there because I just cleaned him how do I get clean well do you see Christ in his power his glory his holiness have you seen him that way lately you ever seen him that way have you trembled before him and felt your total sin fullness felt just have you confessed all that you are before him and come to his fearful shining light blinding light we might say and if you haven't seen him that way ask that he help you see ask that he reveal himself to you right nobody comes to the father unless
[55:00] I reveal him to them Jesus is the only way and Jesus alone has the word to give you access to cleansing and acceptance and peace and power power that you don't have to do what he calls us to do so this is how Jesus catches us he wants I don't know why he wants the unfit the unworthy the sinful and he takes our shame and our guilt and our sin and he removes it he reveals his glory to catch us and then he transforms us from sinful people to sent people that's what he does let's pray father we pray like
[56:07] Peter lord we are sinful people and many of us maybe most of us here have already come to you and experienced your power and your glory and we've already seen you and you've exposed us and we've confessed before you but there's I'm sure people here that have not seen you yet have not fell to their knees have not been exposed by your light so that they might be cleansed so I pray lord show yourself to us through your word through your spirit forgive us oh god our debts as we forgive our debtors lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil this we pray in jesus name amen
